I’d like to take this first post to introduce myself. Hi! I’m Gabi. I love engineering and art. By logic, this would have taken me in a path to become an architect, which has been my lifelong passion. But life had other plans, so I became an engineer, twice on paper, and close to two decades in the industry. I’ve had the opportunity to travel to many countries, admiring the old and the new, the blend of tradition and innovation, and taking in all the glimmers of inspiration for living.
Many times I thought about what my life would have been if I had been an architect instead of an engineer. Last year, I told myself I needed to get as close as possible to architecture and design. Going back to architecture school with a full time job and engineering career was not possible, so I decided to go into interior design instead. I decided to formalize my interior design knowledge somehow. I started taking workshops, educating myself in space planning, concept development, styles, rendering software, etc. Honestly, I couldn’t get enough. So, I impulsively registered at the Interior Design Institute, and what a decision! I definitely had underestimated the content and amount of work necessary to complete my degree. I spent countless hours reading, observing home and commercial decor, identifying styles, creating mood boards and sample boards, re-learning CAD. I became obsessed with accent chairs and mid-century modern styles, made many trips to hardware stores, and started getting to know the industry trends.
Many times I found myself doubting whether this was the correct decision (the imposter syndrome always kicking in), but it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. So here I am. I completed my Interior Design diploma from IDI, as well as the Commercial Design certificate. It has been an incredible learning curve.
For the past year, I have truly enjoyed learning something new, something where I can blend my engineering knowledge and my passion for art. I hope to make this blog a writing journal and space to share my ideas, my world-travel finds, and to give you a little view of what my eyes and heart see along the way.
Thanks for stopping by! Comments are always welcomed.
